There was a time when gaming laptops used to be reserved for rich people. Recognized as a bulky piece of heavy hardware, these gaming machines used to come with a high price tag. However, increased demand for powerful and portable hardware paved a way for OEMs to introduce amazing options for buyers, resulting in cheaper gaming laptops starting as low as Rs. 50,000. Asus recently joined the community with its first mid-range gaming laptop named Asus TUF Gaming FX505. It sports higher grade 0f hardware and advanced features. We received the 15.6” model powered by Intel Core i7-8750H processors, 16GB RAM paired with Nvidia GDDR5 (4GB), and amazingly, an FHD IPS Display with a notable refresh rate of 144MHz. Asus TUF Gaming FX505 with the same configuration will cost around Rs. 1,29,990. However, its entry-level laptop is available at Rs. 79,990. With a lot to be tested, we checked the laptop through its pace to find whether or not it worth the price.
Build and Design
Asus continued to stroll with the ROG-inspired “Radiating X-design” for its laptops. Keeping everything aside, it is not designed to walk into the board meeting room. With its red exhaust & golden fins and aggressive lines of the lid, multiple elements have been used in the design of this powerful machine.
First, when we opened and used this laptop, we noticed a noticeable flex on the outer lid and unequal lift on the hinges. When opening the laptop using one hand, its display gets a sharp curve to a few degrees. This couldn’t be a flaw in the build quality, that’s why we put it under essential choice. You will soon notice that the FX505 solely stands on its ‘TUF’ design, bringing MIL.STD801G rating along with a powerful performance. This particular rating states that the laptop has been drop tested. To test Asus's claims, we put our luck and money at risk and dropped the laptop three times. Luckily it survives all with minor dents.
Moving on to the next, the design of the Asus TUF Gaming FX505 has got slight changes from its predecessors. All the ports are given on the left side to eliminate any interruption while using the mouse. It is designed keeping all the modern needs in mind. On the right side of the laptop, you will have an additional exhaust port to pass the heat, which we often don’t mind. But, more cooling always comes as an additional benefit in gaming-dedicated laptops.
